DUNK

Using the theory that simplicity and tidiness bring joy, design an object that portrays this. In accomplishing this, incorporate upcycled materials into the final model.

Inspiration

Due to Covid-19, I spent a lot of time at home during the summer of 2020. My parent’s garden brings me joy. I set out to design an object which was inspired by my parent’s beautiful backyard oasis. I set out to bring the outdoors inside in a container that would incorporate fish and plant life.

Research Development

Fish tanks are often very extravagant. However, like us, all fish need to survive is water, food, and oxygen. If the fish are small enough, the gas exchange with a water plant is enough to keep them alive.

Terrariums are extremely self-sufficient because it reuses the energy that is left in the confined space.

Initial Ideation

Nature and organization are two things that both bring me joy and relaxation. I set out to design something that captured both of these things.

Physical Model

The final DUNK is composed of upcycled glass and a sheet of clear acrylic. This container truly brings the outdoors in with a terrarium surrounded by a fish tank. These two environments bring joy and relaxation every time it is looked at and it allows the user to customize it with whatever plant and fish life one chooses.
